Honoring the memory of slain Israeli Prime Minister YitzhakRabin, the Los Angeles City Council on Wednesday designated a StudioCity intersection in his honor.

The council's unanimous vote to declare the intersection ofVentura and Lankershim boulevards came without comment. A woman who prosecutors believe beat her boyfriend's2-1/2-year-old son to death was sentenced to 10 years in prisonWednesday under a plea agreement, officials said.

Eve Wingfield, 23, pleaded no contest to child abuse inconnection with the death of little Lance Helms on April 6, said PhilWynn, head deputy district attorney in Van Nuys.

Wingfield, who faced 15 years to life in prison if convicted,has maintained her innocence.

A Mission Hills woman who pleaded no contest to involvement in apyramid scheme was sentenced Wednesday to three months in jail or 75days on a work crew, and ordered to pay $3,000 to her victims.

Los Angeles Municipal Court Judge David Minning gave FilibertaLedesma, 36, a choice of jail time or work with a graffiti-removalcrew, said Deputy City Attorney Don Kass.

The woman, also known as Giliberta Gutierrez, persuaded threePacoima residents to join her 'endless chain' game in late Februaryand early March last year, Kass said. He said she has since repaidthem $1,000.

Kass said Ledesma; Silvina Masias Ruiz, 28, of North Hills;Lilianna Marquez, 23, of Northridge and Jose Luis Gonzalez, 34, ofWinnetka, were charged.Source: - City News ServicePierce College to hold Saturday registration
